Danny talks about his day and he mentions that he's going to town to buy two cards for his mother and his mother-in-law. He wonders if she has already picked a name for their child, in case she is a girl. Danny announces that he is going to "get an exam," therefore, he does not think that he will remain in Camp Joseph T. Robinson for more than two months. He reassures her that he's going to be fine and then he says: "I can hardly wait till it's born because it won't be much longer after that, that the war will be over then and I'll be home to stay and take care of you two."
