Title

Kandyskin 0 (With Her Stripes We are Healed)

Description

0. STRIPED
Details from the Kandyskin Chronicle Show Catalog (1992)
Two distinct images (Cicciolina, in meditative pose, and the 1934 Kandinsky painting titled "Striped") form a sandwich over and under a text that recalls the celebrated opening sentence of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years of Solitude. We are introduced to Kandyskin, character- art - object, posed on the auctioneer's block. The auctioneer's tongue bleeds as he hawks the "ineluctable modality of the visible", Joyce's translation of Thomas Aquinas' characterization of the visible dimension and the role it plays in aesthetic pleasure. The various bidders at the auction including Peggy Guggenheim, drive the price up with the homicidal signaling of raised eyebrows. The final note assures us that the Rubicon has been crossed and that the chronicle continues in the next painting.
