Title

July 25, 1944. Letter from Leona Badia, née De Nardo to Danny Badia

Subject

Italian-American, 1944

Description

She is trying to write long letters to him, as if he has asked her for them. She tells him she shouldn't read his letters before going to bed because all the things he says keep her mind wondering; some are cute and make her laugh and others make her feel sad. Either way, they all add-upto a wonderful dream. She hopes the war ends soon and she is happy to hear that the "Col" (Colonel) wants to make him (promote him) to Mess Sergeant. She says she will love the purse he is making for her, no matter how big or small. She mentions that she chose a purse instead of a diaper bag because the women purses are very expensive and even have a 20% tax. On the other hand, diaper bags are cheap. She is going to keep/save the last pay check she gets to buy him something nice. At that time, she only has $ 5 in her personal account. She hopes to get him something by Christmas.
