January 5, 1944. Letter from Danny Badia to Leona Badia, née De Nardo
Title
January 5, 1944. Letter from Danny Badia to Leona Badia, née De Nardo
Subject
Italian-American, 1944
Description
Danny mentions the "son" but he was not born yet! (Maybe referring to Sue's pregnancy referenced in letter 1944 -01-05) I think this letter actually dates to 1945 even though the date reads 44. Danny is stationed in Germany and has disclosed to Leona that he will be turning in his stripes because he does not feel confident leading men in battle with the training he has had as a cook. The letter presents more mispellings and a more morose tone than the other letters in the 1944 collection. He mentions having his wife's picture in his foxhole and how hard it is to get sleep.
